Introducing... Wikum

Wikum caught the electronic bug after hitting up Glastonbury and witnessing first hand the effect it had on people. He eventually found Dnb, and after buying heaps of vinyl and constantly going to raves at the end, fabric, herbal and brixton mass etc it wasn't long before he decided to take a blast at makin his own tunes.

Even though he loved drum & bass, Wikum had really high standards and found it hard to come up with something thats not only original in sound, but something that he liked hearing himself. Dubstep was a genre that gave him his freedom.

These tracks are well worth a listen, also check out his youtube channel and show Wikum some love for givin you some tunes, along with a pretty sweet dnb mix which Ive been listening to when in the car and stuff. Check 'em.

This mix won't disappoint. Seriously good if you can't be arsed changing tracks every 5 minutes.

IX

I was pretty pleased to find an email from Numbernin6 sitting in our inbox. If you're still not in the know on who he is, or the ear-shattering music he makes, check the last post, grab his last mix and report back to us.

The majority of you on the other hand, will know exactly who Numbernin6 is, and might be wondering where the Nin6 releases at? Well, they were supposed to be out by now, but have been delayed a tad due to small issues. Since he felt bad about this, he decided to give you all a tune hes been holding onto for a while, along with some very exclusive clips of his 2 forthcoming EP's, which are dropping very soon!

Check these samples out for size, First couple from the SubHuman EP, which is out afrer the new year I think, and which is also very dirty indeed. I suggest you poor beggars start saving your pennies for this one!

The 'With You EP', Out on Rob Sparx's Migration Records soon, is a totally different feel, real deep balearic vibes kickin off in this one, Id say definitely a rain watcher haha. Head over to the myspace for more badness, or leave a comment of your thoughts. Feedback is appreciated..

Rubix Pt. 2

Just looking through the inbox and found this funky gem from Rubix so I thought I'd get it posted. The tracks been supported by the likes of A-trak, Laidback Luke and Radioclit so you know its high grade.
Been really enjoying this sound of late especially with the recent of influx of producers taking on a more funkier approach to house (think
Fake Bloods latest EP for example).

Rubix - Baiser Sur La Disco (Rubix Refix)

Mega Gooch!

Grey areas in house is what seems to make it interesting, it seems a common occurrence that if someone is unable to tell you what classification a type of music falls under then it is quite often something with a bit of eclectic flair.

Lately while I've been reading a few different blogs and I've noticed how a lot of new sounds coming through at the moment are being grouped under the 'tech-house' classification though they conform to nearly none of the formal elements which define the genre. This got me thinking about the construction of house music, about what influences a person may hold as well as the context of the situation in which it was created, ie what type of sounds are contemporary at the time of production, and how this will no doubt have a huge say in the way in which the track is constructed. The remix is a good example of this ideal, just imagine when 2 different DJs remix the same track how different they sound?

To give you an example of such 'grey area' music I thought I'd post a short live mix by Banana Mangentments own Joseph Goulcher. Featuring 9 tracks of house that's so cutting edge you'll get a paper cut just listening to them and producers that are so 'it' you'll be mistaking them for spooky clowns that live in the sewer the mix is a must have for anyone who's a fan of that new ish taking over at the moment, y'all know what I'm talking about!
And if you don't, well you better keep up!

Joseph Goulcher - Minimix

Fresh Tings

It's not the first time since writing on this blog that I've praised the Dutch for their forward thinking approach to not only music but culture and art also, fundamental premises which have juxtaposed our existance since as far back as the days of caves, clubs and sabertooth tigers.

So as fidget house is quietly swept under the rug as what seems the new 'buzz' genre that is dutch house is hurriedly ushered through the door a whole range of new artists and producers are beginning to grab the attention of the blogging world. Kid Kaio is one such artist, combining elements of B-more, tribal house, jackin' and tech house (kinda like fidget? hmm) with the tradement dutch house synth sound Kid Kaio is appropriating a sound that although seems cutting edge and fresh now begs the question of how long til the style becomes overdone and becomes massively generic and boring? Think fidget, bassline and the way dubstep is going, well...

Don't get me wrong right now I'm loving this particular sound but as it stands I'll be enjoying such tracks with a pinch of salt as I wait for the next big thing to come along.

Anyways 7 tracks here for you to download so make up your own mind.

Dj Mujava - Township Funk (Kid Kaio Baltimix)

Estelle ft Kanye West - American Boy (Kid Kaio Remix)

7 Deadly Dubs

Anyone who's in the know, will definitely know about Enigma. The guy has given out so many free tunes for you all to wet your whistle with so its nice to see him finally release his solo EP with Bigger Than Barry Records. And what a release it is, 7 Deadly Dubs showcases Enigma's talent, taking you through a journey of badness of the 7 deadly sins.

Like I said, Enigma has been more than sweet with you lot, so I think it's time we repayed him by heading over to beatport and buying this release. Trust me, its one that you'll be glad you payed for, and a release that any self-respecting DJ will not want to miss. If that wasn't enough to convince you, then here's a sick little preview of what you could be blasting out of your speakers..

I'd definitely make sure to keep an eye out for Enigma in the future, and also on future Bigger Than Barry Releases. This one's an absolute banger.
